Sabbath Space: Mandala Making
Saturday, June 18th, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
You are invited to Sabbath Space on Saturday June 18th from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. here at the church. Drop by for part of it or stay for the whole thing. Lisa Laing will teach those interested how to make mandalas as a form of prayer at 10 a.m.
Come and creatively experience the journey inward, making a mandala of your own design. Many have found that creating and coloring your own Mandala design can be meditative, prayerful and contemplative. Our time together will offer you the easy tools and skills to learn how to make a Mandala to keep or share. No “artistic” experience or particular skill is necessary.
A Mandala is spiritual and ritual symbol, stemming from Indian religions, representing the universe, both microcosm and macrocosm, but has been widely adapted to represent the cosmos, unity, balance, the four directions in Native American cultures, the Cross of Christ in Christian religions and so on. Many Mandala designs are circular and/or geometric in nature and are found in art, architecture, especially in stained glass window designs, gardens and Meditation and Prayer guides.
Lisa Laing will provide materials, methods and ideas to support and inspire your own design. If you have favorite watercolor markers, colored pencils or gold or silver pens or markers, and a good eraser, feel free to bring them.
