About our Pastor: The Rev. Joy Perkett was called by the congregation in early May 2014 and her first Sunday was July 13, 2014. She is an ordained minister in the American Baptist tradition and holds a Master of Divinity and Master of Social Work from Boston University. Prior to her call to First Baptist Church in Essex, she worked as a faith organizer around issues of economic justice and as a case manager with people recovering from addiction and mental illness. Joy is married to Matthew Nuss, a marine meteorologist, and enjoys hiking, reading and spending time in God’s creation.
